Installing a new Driveway

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009 | Cool Stuff | No Comments

For the last few months, we have been parking our cars on the grass in our front yard because of a plumbing leak that occurred under our previous crushed lime stone driveway. In an attempt to somewhat modernize our home, we decided to go with a new asphalt driveway as apposed to going back with limestone after the plumbing was fixed.

First things first, was to have a driveway company come out and give me an estimate on what the asphalt driveway cost would be. Turns out, that it was not as expensive as I had first thought it might be.

The contractor who gave us the bid wanted to remove the existing limestone and come back with a fresh layer or cliche rock and compact it til it was nice and level. After this point they will bring in a fresh trailer load of crushed asphalt and lay it over the top of the cliche.

On most small jobs the contractor told me that they normally charge an extra 150 dollars for the use of the roller, however since they were doing another job only 1/2 a mile away at the same time, he was able to give it to us at no extra charge.

After everything was said and done, we came out with our asphalt driveway costing us less than 4 dollars a squar foot. This price was less than half of what we would have paid for a concrete driveway. If you want to go nice and inexpensive, I would recommend having an asphalt driveway installed, and save some money.

Working in The Yard and at Home

I think I have found that working in the yard is a lot more enjoyable than it used to be. I think one of the things that used to turn me off, was the fact that I looked at it as work in the past. Things are different now, and I enjoyed being outside rather than cooped up watching a television, or playing video games all day long.

Being married is also a factor as to why I enjoy working outside as well, and my wife enjoys working inside decorating the house so that works out perfectly when we need our alone-time.

Things really are different when it’s your own home. You can keep things tidy in front of your apartment door, but the experience is quite different when it’s your own home that you are working on. Whether it be in the garden or even just your front lawn.

I think most of us take for granted the fact that we live in a place where there are many more amenities than countries worldwide. Projects within the home or outside of the home such as installing your own blind shutters, or working on your front lawn planting things.

So what is going to be my next project? I think I may look into having a fireplace built. Now that may take a little bit more planning. I’m going to get the instruction manuals and tools that I need, and then I’m going to begin my project from start to finish. Maybe you should consider some type of in-home project.

How Much Time Do You Spend Online?

Since these social networks came around, I found myself spending too much time online. I find it hard to stay away from the computer, because I’ve made so many friends online that I have lots of things to share with them all the time. There is also time to be spent in the background, by example looking for cool avatars to use for my profile page. As I want to be unique, but I didn’t want to put my photo all over the place, I tried to find some illustrations to represent my personality. This takes a lot of time, but it is worth the pain. Besides, if I do what I enjoy, life’s feeling much better.

Photosession in the Wild

Taking photos of birds is one of my hobbies. Luckily I can go to a river delta which is not so far away from my city, and I can spend there a whole day waiting for the birds to come and let themselves photographed. Sometimes it takes a lot of photos to make only one which is good enough to keep. This is why I never leave home without my spare sets or rechargeable batteries, all charged the previous night, thanks to my universal smart charger which is very fast. With all batteries fully charged, with all my SD cards ready to go, I’m sure there would be no technical problem that would prevent me from photographing those gorgeous birds. I am satisfied with every single photo shooting trip I make.
